COIL - Admin process and support
How to get support for a COIL and the process
Once you have established your partnership, contact your local Unite! COIL support and set up a meeting. The local COIL support will be able to help you throughout the process. Contacts can be found here.
It is important that you have a clear understanding of all the key people and make sure that they are kept in the loop at all times. In addition to the teaching staff and COIL administrative support, it is recommended to have the following key people involved in the project:
- at least one pedagogical expert to help e.g. formulating the learning outcomes and designing
collaborative activities and assessment
- online learning specialist who can support with the technological needs for the project
- if possible, a teaching assistant might be worth considering.
Once you have established who the key people are, set up a meeting and agree on a meeting schedule. We have created checklists to help you with the process.
Discuss with your course’s programme / course coordination (Unite! universities have different processes) who can support you with the course changes if needed. Direct the course coordinator to this web page for further information on COIL.
Remember that a COIL is in general an in-house virtual (collaborative) course and thus the main additional work needed is in connection to:
- ensuring the collaboration with your partner is well established, also during the teaching period
- agreeing on the course content with your partner and taking into consideration the differences in academic schedules etc.More information on the course content page
- making sure you facilitate and/or take into consideration the intercultural learning experience for the students.
Please make sure that the local COIL support informs the relevant Unite! Community coordinator.
