The Unite! VECP Energy courses are open to students enrolled at a Unite! partner university, as long as they meet the relevant requirements for participation. 
The recognition of credits received from such a course should be assured by the home university. We recommend that you check the possibility of recognition with your university in advance.

In this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical framework behind the circular economy. The students get to evaluate the whole life cycle of different solutions and their effect on recyclability. The students prepare different scenarios for future energy storage applications that will take into account circular economy aspects and designs for recycling.

In the Polygeneration course, simultaneous generation of several energy services is in focus, for example electricity, heat, cold, purified water or dry air. It can take place by using a combination of several renewable energy sources to feed a system of energy converters. To achieve increased sustainability, a large part of the energy losses are captured and utilised for simultaneous generation of different energy services.

This course includes an introduction to mathematical modeling and optimization and their application to energy systems. The course focuses on the following topics:
1) Formulating and solving energy system problems (linear (and mixed integer) optimization)
2) Solving energy system problems (introduction to GAMS software)
3) Standard problems in the energy industry (e.g. economic dispatch, transport, optimization of power plant use (unit commitment))
4) Duality and economic interpretation of optimization models in energy systems (description and practical application)
